Privacy Policy
Last updated: 30 June 2026
SproutThread ("we", "us") is a gardening diary that helps you track the things you grow and get AI-assisted growing tips. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. If you have questions, contact us at andycoode@gmail.com.
Information we collect
- Account details — your email address and display name.
- Content you add — plants, diary entries, notes, photos, sowing/harvest dates, container details, and colour labels.
- Locations — any postcodes you save (e.g. home or allotment), used to look up local weather and to tag plants.
- Technical data — basic information needed to run the service securely, such as authentication tokens on your device.
How we use your information
- To provide the diary, reminders, calendar, achievements, and photo timeline.
- To generate AI growing tips, photo diagnoses, and diary discussions you request.
- To show local weather for plants where you've provided a postcode.
- To keep your account secure.
AI features and third parties
When you use an AI feature (chat, "ask AI" on a diary entry, or photo diagnosis), the relevant content — such as the diary text, plant details, and any photo you submit — is sent to Google's Gemini API to generate a response. We only send what is needed for that feature, and we do not sell your data.
We also rely on these services to run SproutThread:
- Google Cloud Storage — stores the photos you upload.
- postcodes.io and Open-Meteo — turn a postcode into a location and return weather forecasts.
These providers process data under their own terms and privacy policies. Please avoid putting sensitive personal information into diary entries or AI prompts.
Training data. Google's terms differ by tier. On Google's free AI tier, content sent to the Gemini API may be used by Google to improve their models, and may be reviewed by humans. On a paid tier, Google states that content is not used to train their models. SproutThread currently uses a paidGemini tier, so your content is not used for model training. If that ever changes, we'll update this policy. Either way, we never sell your data.
Retention and deletion
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual plants, entries, and photos at any time. To delete your account and associated data, contact us at the email above and we will action it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under UK GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Contact us to exercise these rights.
Children
SproutThread is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We may update this policy as the product evolves. We'll change the "last updated" date above when we do.
